lake powell and striper fishing
#2
Lake Powell is a lot of fun. Stripers do fight really hard. Are you going to have a boat. I had a lot of luck driving around early morning and in the mouth of Padre Bay on the east side there are some walls that the stripers were pinning the shad against and then the boil would start the year ling stripers are what we mostly caught on top water and shallow diving lures that look like shads. I mostly had newbies fishing so they were in heaven catching fish every cast. I took some shad imitating soft pastics with a small weight and if it got past the little guys on top down to the 30 foot depth I would hook into some bigger fish. If you dont have a boat Wahweap has a fishing pier. Buy some anchovies and hook a half of one on to a 1/8oz jig head with a 3/0 hook i think that is the size I have even done it weight less I takes longer to sink but catch rate for me has been higher. If you take kids the have some trees that are in the water in that same area and a small jig with a tip of worm keeps them entertaned. I was down there less then a week ago. We also got into 2 large mouths in the 4lbs range and lots of very nice small mouths. Some of the biggest small mouths were caught fishing the striper boils. As soon as the sun got over the steep walls the fishing died off untill the evening. If you have a boat I can try to help you out more as always check out waynes words awesome website just for lake powell info. GOOD LUCK
