High Country
#6
I've tried several different rigs for the minnows (dead redsides or chub), but my best success has come from using just a tiny treble, weightless, barbs just behind the lips.

Cast carefully and smoothly or they'll fly off.

When a fish takes it, I make sure the bale is open and just keep feeding line to it for about 20 seconds or so.

Once I'm satisfied, I'll shut the bale, allow the slack to pull until I feel some resistance, the snap back on the rod and set the hook. It usually works, so this trip was a little baffling to miss six fish.

One came up out of the water to grab the minnow, as soon as it hit the surface. A fellow BFT member witnessed that one with his family. I thought for sure that I'd get to show them that fish. Oh well.

Like I said, unfinished business.[Wink]

(BTW, that minnow rig is not good for C&R. I use that when I want to bring home some meat.)
