My family was heading down to fish the gorge for the memorial day weekend so i thought i will sneak off and hit the green. I split the day between fishing little hole as well as working my way down from the dam. As i started wading i realized the patch in my waders wasn't going to hold up, luckily the fly shop rented me a pair for $10.00, crisis averted! So i started walking and was amazed at how many fish i saw feeding in the shallows. So I tied on a little red ant and started sight fishing... First cast I watched a nice brown come slowly up and slurp the ant, BAM! first fish on! As i was fighting this bad boy i realized my 4wt isn't going to cut it so i grabbed the 6wt but man what a blast... Such a healthy looking fish. Slow going for the next few hours but then i switched to nymphing and picked up a couple on san juans. Around 1 i started seeing a few cicadas so i started throwing those and picked up a few that way... Another productive pattern was a yellow sally size 14. Ended up the day with around 9 gorgeous fish. I can only imagine how having a drift boat can change the game... hope to get back soon. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with tips and info!
I was alone so getting pics was tough but i got a few... (sorry, i don't know how to post them in the thread)
