drumking, Watts Bar Kids Catfishing Rodeo, Catfish, June 08, 2013, Daniel and Chasity

Today was the annual Kids Catfishing Rodeo from Spring City sponsored by TWRA, town of Spring City, and the Watts Bar Lake Association. I took 2 of my grandkids up there for the 2.5 hour rodeo. The kids had to be 12 years old or less to fish. Adults could assist with baiting, removing hooks, casting and untangling line messes as there were a number of crossed lines, hooks cast up into the overhanging trees and stuff like that. emoBigSmile

All the kids and the adults had a blast. It was a lot of fun. Daniel and Chasity both caught 8 catfish apiece which we donated to my brother-in-law and his grand kids. We totaled 35 catfish between the 2 families. A TWRA ranger told me that they had stocked about 3800 catfish in the 1 to 2 pound range and from the way that the fish did bite, they must not have fed them for a couple of days. TWRA had netted off a portion of Town Creek, so the fish were stacked in the small creek and boy did they ever bite for everyone. It was non-stop catching by all for a couple of hours.

Prizes were given away after the rodeo, but we didn't stay for that. Kids were hungry, so we opted for Hardees for burgers and fries for everyone.

Our bait was cut up hotdogs and my little secret sauce sprayed on them. WD40. emoBigSmile emoGeezer

My oldest grand kid, Gabrielle, was too old to fish (13), so she sold homemade cookies and read a book while everything else was going on. emoBigSmile
