Seemed like half the field went to Cave Lake, but joined the crowd anyway. That has seem to be our most productive place we been fishing since winter. Started off fishing with Kermit and had many blowups but they were little. Tonya caught 4 dinks with 2 almost measuring. She asked how many have you caught? Well I got the message so I picked up my shaky head. As we were leaving the area we started in, I picked frog and made a few more cast and finally hooked our first keeper of the day which weighed 2.5lbs. Headed to the other side of cave lake. Tonya got our 2nd keeper fish of the day in a ditch about 7ft deep with scattered grass. It weighed 3lbs 8ozs. Then we caught another keeper that barely measured.
We left cave lake for a little while and caught a few more dinks but ended up back in cave lake. Last weekend I marked some areas I caught a few fish on and stopped there up past Team Viagra and another boat. On my first cast I caught a keeper almost right after the bait hit the water. I decided to throw a scrounger after seeing all that bait suspended around us. I caught a few on it earlier but they were little. Then when I was reeling it up to make another cast I looked down and three what looked to be 3 to 4lbers tried to grab it and I drooped the bait back down and it nailed it, Tonya netted it and it mangled my bait. It was the only scrounger I had so I had to fix it emoDoh. I should've retied after that because later it come back to hurt later. Well the bite stopped we moved over by the swimming area and fished and caught some more shorts. I told Tonya everyone left where we were fishing so we went back and started about where the road bed crosses and started fan casting toward the power lines. I caught another keeper and while reeling it in another bass that looked over 5+ was swimming with it. I hurried and made another short cast and one nailed it but I missed it. I stopped it and let sink and Bam! Set the hook and my line popped emoBang. Tonya started catching them on a shaky head and lost one that looked like it would cull are smallest. She ended up catching 3 more keepers there but we ran out of time.
We ended up with 9.74 which I thought would get us in the money but not a win. we caught fish on shaky heads, 10" worms, frogs, swim baits, and the only scrounger I had......
