Removing biomass from a stream isn't helping it, in terms of fertility. Throw the carcasses back into the water and it will support the bottom of the food chain. This is a well established concept in fishery management. In the NW, fish and game departments spend good money trucking tons of carcasses from salmon hatcheries and chucking them into the headwaters of creeks. So throw'em back, dead if you must, unless feeding skunks and magpies is your priority. Also, if one does this in the high country, I guarantee you that banking a pile of whitefish is going to send a scent trail drifting past some curious bears.
