My Koke Tips
#1
We have done well at both the Gorge and Strawberry this year on kokes. Pink seems to be our main stayes for the squids..both light colored and deep pink. We have done best with green dodgers at 1.6 to 1.8 mph on both lakes. We have gone to as long at 28” leaders if the fish are shy on any particular day. I also re tie all setups with 17lb leader and #14 swivels to get more action on the squids. Assasin wedding rings in same colors have done well with 4” dodgers at 2 to 2.2 mph. Maggots with shrimp smell on all rigs. Find the schools on the electronics and put your rigs 2 to 3 feet over that elevation. Hope this helps and good fishing!!!

[#800000]I'm not sure you can get ANY action from a plain squid lure. That's why I always use a 6 to 8" leader on them. And any blade or bill squid I use is always about 22 to 24 inches behind the dodger. I use 15# test line for all my re-stringing of lures with busted or frayed leaders. The 17# test line is a good choice also.[/#800000]

[#800000]I'm leaning towards mostly pink and orange colors on both dodgers and lures. Dodger brands I favor are Deadly Venom and RMT. I'm also trying some 3"/4" Simon dodgers from Hawkin Outdoors this season. One of my buddies that only fishes FG is having great success with them for 2 years now. Just got 4 of them Saturday and will give them a try very soon.[/#800000]

[#800000]Yep, those be the ones. I have SD03, SD06, SD07 4.0, & SD08 colors. The 07 is a 4", and the others are 3.5". I ordered direct from Hawkins. Shipping was $3.85 for all 4.[/#800000]

I don't understand what the Pink, Pink, Pink thing is at Strawberry. At 24 ft or deeper, pink is faded out to gray. You certainly can't argue with success, but I think it is more the action of the dodger and the squid, or the speed, or the leader length that'll get you bit. I do really well on plain Silver and white. Put the bait on the fish, adjusting the above combos until you find what they like and wallah, fish on!!

Color is largely a non-factor in fishing overall. It gets way too much attention.

Speed, depth, vibration, flash, location, etc are way more important. In my opinionSmile
