Tried Newton for a couple hours tonight. Had a couple small bites on a Texas rig worm and maniac swim bait but didn’t hook them. Skunked. Going to try either Willard (I can’t seem to stay away from there) or Mantua or Hyrum in the morning. Any suggestions?

Was wondering if mantua is too mossy yet. Went out a couple weeks ago and got some nice bass and lots of gills, by the knoll shore, on drop shot.

Over the weekend I fished newton a bit and we had a couple 6" bass grab a hold, but it was really slow for us as well.. Later J

So I tried Willard again this morning for a couple of hours. Tried by the hog lot, Freeway bay and the west dike (about the middle to the lightpole). I didn’t have a single bite. Was trolling lipless crankbaits and rapalas.

I stopped by Mantua for a couple hours on the way home and caught about 10 small fish (bluegill, perch, and 6-7” bass). Lots of algae, not my kind for fishing... constantly removing weeds. Probably won’t hit it again this summer.

Sounds like it's getting pretty tough to catch fish in the current heat... Time to hit the high country and chase brookies I guess... This makes it easier for me to get my farming done... Bring on the ice.... not really, but I do like ice fishing... Later J

yep, the past couple of weeks have been really tough fishing for me. I guess its time to take a break and focus on getting ready for the archery hunt and try again in the fall.

I don't know if it was just a fluke, but I caught a 2 1/2 lb bass at newton last week on a chartreuse spinnerbait, off the bigger point on the dam.

Guess I should have tried a spinner bait. I’m really not a very good bass fisherman, still learning.

Thats alright me too. I think that was pure luck that I caught that bass.

Seems like I hit these hot, dog days of summer and always turn to the high elevations or take a break as well. Helps that I don't really have time to go very often as well. Makes me really ready for the fall bite. If I do get out its a night cat run. Those can sometimes be really good. Got the hay hauled tonight so now if I can get it watered I may get time to fish again. Hope they'll bite when I get out. Later J
