Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World
#1
Took a trip to So Cal last week to do the Disneyland thing with my family. Too crowded and too far to drive but the kids sure loved it. The highlight of the trip for me was on the way back home I noticed that Bass Pro Shops had opened an Outdoor World on the South edge of Vegas. I just had to stop, even with my wife's upturned eyebrows when I suggested it. It was worth it. The guy that greeted us at the door said "Welcome to hillbilly heaven!" Talk about cool. It made sportsman's warehouse look like a mini-shop. It had the full line of tracker boats, inside the building. Fishing, hunting, camping, boating, clothes, shoes...hillbilly heaven. The number of mounts was incredible. They had a full size mounted giraffe and a whole pride of lions. When you walked in the door there are two bull elk fighting, one on it's back. Then there are the fish tanks, a fresh water one with largemouth, smallmouth, blue cats, channels and a huge flathead, crappie, bluegill, carp and so on. A smaller tank with some big rainbows and browns and then a saltwater tank with rays and everything. There is a climbing wall and a shooting gallery. They even have an indoor gun range to try out your new purchases. After an hour my wife was giving me the look, although even she said she was impressed. Can't wait for Cabela's to open. If it is anything like the Outdoor World, it will probably be a day long excursion.

My wife too rolls up her eyeballs when I insisted that we stop at Moapa Indian Reservation to buy some "good" fireworks on our way back from California twice a year... I can imagine my wife doing the eye thing again when I spy the pro shops.[Tongue]

I imagine that Cabelas would top the bass pro shops... hurry up and build that thing so I can start entertaining myself in northern Utah county...[Wink]

I went to the one in Oklahoma City a couple of months ago. My wife said she was bored just hearing about it. I "shopped" for about three hours and then went back to pick out what I wanted to buy. Thank God I was limited on luggage space or I would have bought alot more.

When I was in Springfeild MO I went to the one there. I guess it is the birth place of bass pro shops. Oh man that place blew my doors off. I felt like a roster in a hen house! I spent so much time there and was just in awwww. From all the tackle to the fish tanks. They had everthing I wish I could get. That place does make sportsmans look like a hole in the wall. To think it all started in a gas station saleing bait to local fisherman.

I am in agreement with D-Mack the texas store rules...however the only thing that was a downer for me is they don't have much of anything in the way's of trout ,salmon,or steelhead my three species but then again that's why it's called Bass pro Shop's! It is pretty neat though. Having Cabela's is going to be a hangout for alot of us I can hardly wait!

I went to the one in Vegas about a month ago, it was nice but it didn't hold a candle to the Cabelas in Sydney.

Italked with one of the "executives" of Cabela's this mourning and his answer was SEPT 1ST we'll just have to wait and see. I know that they were pushing for a August opening but I think that Sept is a little more of a reality. I can't wait myself it's going to be great.

[black]The Bass Pro, off the Blue Diamond exit from I-15, is pretty cool. I stayed at the Silverton RV park for 5 days in February and went to it 3 days in a row. It has plenty of stuff but not everything shown in the catalogs.[/black]

[black]I wanted to play with all the console mounted GPS units and was disappointed that their selection sucked. I did come away very impressed with their 100 mph gore-tex rainsuits. They are, by far, the best rain gear made. I was so impressed with it, that I just bought the suit a few days ago when it went on sale. Still pricey and well worth the retail price but at $100 off I couldn't resist. [/black]

[black]Ya, Bass Pro is a cool place and you can bet its a sure stop everytime I'm in Vegas. Lord help me when Cabela's opens with a couple hour drive from home.[/black]

I have been to the Cabela's store in Sidney as well, and all I can say is if the Lehi store is anything like that one, you guys and gals are in for a treat! It sounds similar to the BPS outside of Lost Wages in that it too has aquariums, mounts galore, and everything else a sportsman could want. I like the area they call the "Bargain Cove" which is discounted merchandise that has been returned, one-of-a-kinds, overstocks, and closeouts. Talk about putting a dent in one's plastic card. The only negative is that we will have to chip in to Uncle Sam's account - even on the mail order stuff, but it will be well worth it.
