Bear Lake - how do you rig your Cisco?
#1
I have been fishing Bear Lake for some years now, and have always fished with tube jigs tipped with a 1 - 2 inch piece of Cisco. I usually cut off the tail, split em down the middle and then cut them into a few pieces to put on my jig. As I was hooking a piece on yesterday, I realized that my jig/meat combo didn't look much like a fish, which I suppose is what I am trying to imitate. I do catch some fish, but maybe there is a better way so I could catch more fish - I hear from a lot of you that presentation matters. I have seen others using lots of different methods, so I am curious. What is your favorite way to rig your Cisco (on a tube jig, whole thing on a hook, small pieces large pieces, etc.) and do you notice a big difference in catch rates with different presentations?

I would absolutely save the tail. I usually cut off the bottom 1/4 section and use it to tip my jig. I believe including the tail gives it a good presentation.

Cadresults is right about the tails, best part of the cisco but the sides, I cut them like you do but I taper one end so it will fludder when jigged. The good thing about the tail is that it stays on better than the sides and it looks real. WH2

The tail is my first choice also and it stays on the hook better if it takes a few strikes.
