small mouth on willard last year
#1
Last year was my first year fishing willard and I cought quit a few small mouth. I never see any posts about smallies on willard. So I am wondering if me catching them was a fluke or is it just that people are more interested in the wipers, walleyes, and kittys?

i believe the closer you get to the north marina the more population of smallmouth. I have caught a 2.5 pound smallmouth fishing from the small dock throwing bluegill crankbait. My buddy caught a 4 pound largemouth right by the suction tube. they are there but most people go for the walleye and wiper. Pineviewfisher

I've caught several decent ones out there...but it's been while I've been fishing for wipers.

I hope you released them! The dwr doesn't stock them so those big spawners are important to those of us who like catching them more than eating them[Wink]

What do you use to catch them in Willard? I would love the chance to catch a few before I leave Utah.

I have mostly cought them on plastics. greens seem to work the best. I have also caught a few floating a worm behind the boat which will also get hits from wipers, and kittys.

I have caught several smallmouths in june, trolling along the jetty casting towards the rocks, then letting the orange curly tail (2") jig sink and then a slow twicthing retrieve.I seemed to have my best luck ont the jetty south (left) of the south marina.
