Green River Fishing?
#1
Hey Guys,

I am new to the bigfishtackle site and am looking for some advise. I am taking a scout troop out to Flaming Gorge this weekend and will be hiking/fishing in the Green River below the dam. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for the boys to have some success? We will have most of them fishing with spinning rods if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance,

rapala's, panther martins, and little tube jigs in the deeper holes. i have only fished that river once, for a few days. Trout_Slayer had some luck on spinners, i stuck to my fly rod.

Thanks kochanut....any particular colors that work best on the panther martins? Those should be relatively easy for the boys to fish with.

Spinners in #1, 2, 3 silver, bronze, black are good to start with. I've caught them on lots of colors and different blade shapes. Jakes Spin-a-lures have performed well at times. Rapala minnow type lures #5 to 9 can be good. 1/8 to 1/4 oz jigs (marabou, tubes, twisters) in dark colors often work well. Take a variety of colors and sizes because I've seen success change dramatically just by switching color or size on this river.

Prepare them for picky fish and hope to be pleasantly surprized if the fish are on a binge feed. Make sure the kids know the regulations so they don't get into trouble. If you don't catch enough on the river go up to the Gorge with some worms or PB and you can usually nail a few.

#5 and #7 Countdown Rapalas in brown trout, rainbow trout, black/silver, and black/gold.

Hookjaw and I go almost every year, and we have 40 fish days regularly using countdowns.

Make sure you don't use (even have) soft plastics on the Green River that are scented. It's artificial lures and flies only and a scented/salted lure like grub or jig bodies do not meet the artificial criteria. To add to the list, if I'm spin fishing I like to throw jerk baits, like Rapala X-raps and Husky Jerks. Rainbow trout colors work great, especially after the river is stocked with catchable rainbows in late May-early June. Ryno
