Flying into town on 6/23-7/8...where should we go?
#1
First off, hello to all. I am a new member who was born and raised in Farmington, UT. I have been a fishing addict since I was old enough to hold a rod, and have fly fished just about every body of water in Utah and surrounding states. I currently live in Kentucky, since that is where my wife is from. We are looking to move back to Utah soon, and will be flying in to visit my family on the previously mentioned dates. My brother lives in Heber, and we are planning on spending a couple days on a fly fishing expedition. I was curious as to where is producing right now, or will be around that time. We usually do the strawberry, scofield, provo, or green routine. I know it's hard to stray from those places, since they have always produced for us. I was wondering if there was anywhere else, maybe somewhere off the beaten trail, that would be worth a couple days fly fishing. Thanks in advance!

All of the ones listed. We have been getting allot of rain and even snow in the Uinta's so run off is lasting longer.
But, the fish are still there, might have to look a little harder for them.
It will be great to have you back in Utah. Can't speak for Kentucky, but here...there is water in every direction within an hour.

I had heard about that high run off this year. I'm hoping that things will improve slightly in the next week or two. Otherwise, we might have to stick to reservoirs. I figured the same old waters would be the producers still.

Having grown up in Utah (till I was 22), I had never seen as much water as I have here in Kentucky. It is definetly a warm-water fishermans paradise. I had to quickly adapt from cold running streams and lakes, to warm ponds and lakes. I have grown to love it, but do miss my cold Utah streams. The bass fishing here is amazing. 10+lb bass are common, and can actually grow in ponds 1 acre in size! It will be hard to leave here, but at the same time...it will be great to get back home to Utah.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah LOL. I never even looked for bass growing up in Utah, but now that I have the 8 yrs. of bass fishing experience here in Kentucky, I'm excited to explore Utah waters for bass! I know they are out there, and now I know all the tricks to catching them, assuming my Kentucky tactics work in Utah.

I'll give ya shout for sure once we get back out there. Hoping to be there by this fall at the latest (depending on when the house sells), and get in on some fall fishing. Take care.

[#008000]I can assure you that your Kentucky tactics will work here in Utah. You will just have to adjust a little for this area - as you know, the waters here are somewhat different than back there.[/#008000]

That is about the time the green drake hatch happens on the Middle Provo. Great time to be on the river.

Well guys, I'm back! It was a great trip back home to Utah. I hated having to leave and come back to Kentucky, but hopefully I won't have to do that anymore here soon.

The fishing was spectacular! My brother, Dad, and I managed to reserve a cabin up at the LC Ranch outside of Altamont. The fishing was amazing, with monster fish! Multiple lakes with monster browns and bows. The fishing really turned on when the sun went down. There is no better feeling than stripping a bugger in the dark with a full moon, and feeling that SLAM followed by a SPLASH!!! Awesome! I caught the biggest bow of my life, so far, at 26.25" (8.2lbs). The biggest brown I caught was 22" (5 lbs). FUN!!!

We also fished a local water that we were told had some small mouth action. We had caughten some small ones on the fly (buggers), then we came upon an inlet that flowed into the lake as a little waterfall, and it was on! Both smallies and biggies! And these were bigger fish. Biggest smallie I caught was about 3.5#, at the biggest largemouth was about 3#. It was fun! Every cast for about an hour till they were all sore-lipped! lol!

I also had time to hit some of my favorite spots growing up. I hit the east canyon with minimal success (1 little brown 10"), the weber (upper and lower) and caught some nice browns (biggest about 25"), Strawberry (biggest about 24" cutt), and the Provo (midway) biggest about 22" brown (had a monster on that took me down river and busted me off!)

All in all, a wonderful trip. Good to be back home and see family and friends. Can't wait to get back out there to stay.

You bet ya! It was great fun! My brother is a member at Six Lakes, and said that they had purchased Falcon's Ledge. He said there are some monsters there. I would have to say, although the LC Ranch was awesome, the best private lakes I have ever fished were up at Deseret. Nothing funner than catching monsters up there on grasshoppers and damsels.
