Well I guess I'm just beating the same drum as all the other crappie fishers...lots of little fish!(Monday2;00-6:00PM) Fished the roadbeds, ledges, bluffs and some deep water blowdowns all on the lower end around Loret Island and Waconda Bay with very little success...caught about a dozen black crappie in a scattered pattern with nothing over 8inches all evening. Got out earlier(Tuesday7:40AM-1:30PM)and concentrated on the Wolftever Creek sloughs...found the water temps 5-6* warmer in the creek at 58-60* and scads of gathering fish in 6-10fow on old brushpiles in staging areas. Caught fish steadily on every move with a total count of 34 small crappie...now for the good news, 28 of the 34 were White Crappie from 8in to 3in(Yes-3inch!)Now admit it fellows, you gotta be a darn good fisherman to feel a 3inch crappie suck up a 1/32BG...we caught 8-10 fish in the 3-4inch range and all were fat and sassy little white crappie...this hatch off of white crappie must be like the Lotust Bugs(once every 7 years or so)but hey I'm not complaining, just looking foward to em growing up to be 3lbers someday! Marvin did land one keeper early morning worthy of a pic...Tarp White Crappie that he kissed her, spit in her mouth and let her go, he said that was the Momma fish to all them babies and she would take that smell back to em...and by golly I'm not going to argue this time...seemed to work today!
BTW-Wonder who has built all the "Stake Beds" on the shallow humps in Lowe's Slough? Thanks to whoever produced that effort...The white bass will dig em!
