Slow day turned fast!
#1
After a day of funerals and sick babies I was able to sneak out for a few hours of some much needed fishing. Went up the middle Provo just above deer creek and starting throwing nymphs, in a couple hours time was I able to pick up a few on sows and red brassies, but it was slow going. Towards the end of the day I thought I would try a little leech pattern oldtroller showed us at the last tying party we had and....BAM!! Fish on! I couldn't keep the rainbows off that thing today. So for the last 40 minutes of sunlight the fishing was fast!! what a lifesaver that little pattern was... Unfortunatly my gopro died on me me so no photos or videos. But that was a much needed day of fish![:p]

So basically a Dennis Brakke/Mike Andreason CBS with a bead (also in black)?
Here is the CBS dubbing used in the California Leech with a rabbit tail.

Cool thing about the CBS (Canadian Brown Seal) there is no BROWN in it.

When working with mohair, I don't know what Old Troller does, but if it comes on a string, do yourself a favor and pull the fiber off the string. Keep pulling it between both hands so all the fibers end up horizontal. Then make a dubbing loop with you thread and use the dubbing you made. It will be sleeker. Less is more with mohair.

Ya pretty much the same except this one was less buggy... and smaller than i thought as well. Here is a picture of the pattern. A little beat up but you get the idea. I hope oldtroller doesn't mind me posting this pic [Wink]

And thanks for the tips, i haven't done much with mohair so that's good to know!

That is using the rope the dubbing comes on. It is thick body. Obviously it works.
But, you can tie smaller and thinner using a dubbing loop. And less material.
Another tip. By using a thread dubbing loop instead of the thick cord, you can lay down a thread base or Holographic Tinsel underbody and have it show through. Specially on smaller flies.
Now, try BLOOD Mohair.....awesome.
This is a popular fly, so I am sure Old Troller is fine with the pix.
