Okay, we've hashed out the flasher versus finder field; we've hammered the two poles and two limits in possession wuestion; and we've drilled the best auger question into its own hole. So here's a new discussion item:
What do you favor for lunch when you ice fish?
Last time out, I had an MRE (as I do on open water as well). It's great to have a hot meal out on the ice. Next time, I'm taking a small stove so I can boil water. A boil-in-bag lunch and a hot drink will be fabulous.
You?

I rarely eat when I fish, ice or otherwise. I hate the distraction. I occasionally stop for a brief hot chocolate if action slows. I eat when I get to the car. I fished all day New Years 8:00 to 5:30 and only ate one sandwich and had one cup of chocolate on the ice. My kids usually eat all the food so I don't have to.

It's awful hard to beat a sandwich of sardines on a good hard roll. Kippered snacks work mighty good too.

On the ice, I usually take a thermos of soup. I also have a jet boil that I will warm water and make cup of noodles and a hot beverage.

Last time I went out on otter creek, I took a portable barbecue and cooked up jumbo hot dogs. Nothing like some warm food out on the ice. It makes for a cheap lunch also.

I like the MRE idea. I am too impatient to actually prepare or cook any type of food on the lake. I usually just bring some sandwiches and lots of snacks and munchies that I can eat quickly while fishing.

The old standby is soup in a thermos or a ham and salami sandwich. But my favorite though is to order pizza the night before. Wrap two slices face to face in tinfoil and heat them up on my porta-stove. Nothing better than hot pizza and cold beer on the ice!!!!

Clif bars. I try not to eat too much on the ice. I can fish for about 6 hours with two clif bars. If I eat a big meal out there I know I'm gonna have to go #2.

I fish better when I'm hungry.

Food is something I only pack if I'm fishing with others, and that's rare even then. All day trips that require a lot of footwork are excellent times to burn off holiday calories.
Even in the summer, I have a hard time bringing food along.

Back in the day when we fished the Sliver Creek tournament, full breakfast. Eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage plus lunch stuff like burgers and dogs. Eating was always way better than the catching.

Many times I do a thermos with soup or something along those lines. One of the last trips was with a small gas BBQ, brats and a cold shot of schnapps and ax beer hit the spot.

For a hard deck trip, I usually take 2-3 fun size candy bars, 1-2 oranges or apples, and 1 bottle of Doctor Pepper. I'm good to go.

Just don't eat one of those Betos burritos if you are going to be cramped with 3 other guys in an ice shelter.

Today my wife and daughter decided to meet up with us around lunch time. She brought hot KFC with chocolate cake and A&W Rootbeer. It's now my favorite. Usually it's a sandwich and chocolate milk.
