Cascade ice conditions.

Has anyone ventured south from Poison creek towards the island? I have personally been reluctantly to head down that direction, but I'm getting the itch. A confirmed report of decent ice thickness would be about all the encouragement I'd need if you know anything. Many thanks and Merry Christmas either way.

It has got to be good after Christmas. Below freezing temps for the foreseeable future. I plan on going then unless I hear reports of crap ice. I have never done great there but I do have high hopes.

Tackle Tom has a recent ice report on his Facebook page. Hope the cold weather after Christmas puts enough ice on to run a sled. Good luck if you go.

Ice was still safe enough at poison today but the slush and water made conditions miserable at best. Fishing wasn't very good either. Tried to get down to Sugar Loaf ramp and got high centered on snow. Had to chain up and dig to get out. Went to city ramp just to check conditions there and got wet almost to my knees. From there I reached out with a spud bar as far as I could and it went right through. It's gonna be another tough season I'm afraid.

Looks like I might just take the pontoon out to strike instead. Thanks for the update.

It was good to meet and visit with you on your trip to the eastern part of the state. You covered quite an area. Let me know when you head this way again and maybe we can get together. I got thinking about what you saw on Google, there are islands above the mouth to the pond and an island across the river from the mouth. Took the grandkids out on Monday behind the house, lots of perch with a few in the 7 plus range, quite a few chubs and a couple of trout. More people fishing this week than I've seen since it capped.

I am going Friday or Saturday!

Big question. Is there too much snow for a 4 wheeler to get around? Does anyone have any newest info.

Thanks

I went south from Poison creek today. We were on snowmobiles. I don't believe any normal ATV that is unmodified could've made the journey. Ice was okay but slushy where we were. We went less than half way to the island. I did see 2 other snowmobiles that went clear down near the island and back. I did not get an opportunity to talk with them.

We caught at least 150. If you can find them, you should be able to catch. Be careful. Word is, that the ice is still pretty sketchy in locations.

I attached a picture of just a sliver of our catch.
