Hawkins' bass
#1
Howdy,
A friend and I fished Hawkins this past Tuesday. Slow fishing for the kick boats, but we were both surprised to catch three small bass and one bass in the 11" range. At first, we thought we had caught the usual Utah chubs, but chubs don't have spines nor the coloring of a bass. Too bad I didn't take a picture to post. Has anybody else caught bass from Hawkins? And I didn't see that Fish and Game has planted any in Hawkins. I thought it was a rainbow fishery only as that is what I have caught there in the past. Comments?

My friend was down there the other day and he said caught 11 or so bass as well. I also thought the same thing that it was only a trout fishery. Maybe someone illegally planted the bass or fish and game just didn't feel like posting a report lol, but anyways I'm happy. It's better then driving to twin lakes or to american falls for me to catch a bass. [bobhappy][bobhappy]

I have heard there are bass in there for probably 5 years now, but this is the first time I have heard directly from people that caught them...I agree it's most likely an illegal plant, so I might have to run over and catch some to fry up [cool]

From what I understand, yes, the bass are an illegal planting. Which is a terrific shame. They won't do well there, the bugs are the only food base, and they will stunt both themselves and the trout. If not poisoned, the lake will be a total waste land of mini-bass.

Valuable time and money will have to be spent to restore this fishery. Or they may not bother, and might leave it as a monument to bucket bio stupidity!

Since F&G hasn't changed the regulations at Hawkins, regular bass regulations would be in force. So the regional limits on size and number haven't changed. Just a heads up!

Bucket bioed in, they have been there for a few years confirmed. They have been successfully spawning which was the F&G worst fear. I have been talking with a few officers, and they said as of right now nothing planned but it is rumored that a poisoning will take place there as well as a few other 0laces where some one bucket planted some bass.
