[#0000FF]Met up with northerner r2u2 this morning at Lindon. He in his "banana yak"...me in my red ride. Launched by 6:30. Air temp a balmy 57. Water temp 68...and warming to 70 by noon departure. Summer's nigh.
Water depth in the harbor is over 4 feet everywhere. Good to see it. No fish love until I reached the channel entrance point. Hoped for a walleye. Got a whitie. Kept it for bait later if needed.
I headed south to the bubbleup. Richard set up on a proven cat condo close to the harbor and commenced to puttin' a hurtin' on some southern kitties.
At the bubbleup I banged a couple more white bass in quick order. Then I put out a bait line...with a blue-eyed, left-handed chub minnow. After that it was hard to get to fish plastic on one rod because the bait rod was constantly busy. But I did get a couple more white bass and one that had teeth...an 18 inch spawned out male walleye.
Also got a couple of hefty kitties on my small stick fishing plastics for white bass. Fun...but work. On one occasion I was fighting in a cat on the light rod when the bait rod popped. I set the hook on the second fish, adjusted the drag and fought it with my fins as I brought the first fish to net. Then I set the netted fish up on my apron and brought in the fish on the bait rod...and scooped it into the same net with the jig caught fish. Double trouble.
I went through 2 bags of minnows and caught somewhere about 20 cats...from 12" to several 2 footers...with a lot of 20-22" chunky kitties. With the warming water temps the fish were active...and they coloring up for the "prom". In fact, one of the larger females I caught had some fresh abrasions on her side like she might have had a rough date.
Oh yeah, I also caught a couple of everlovin' mudders...to give me a 4 species slam for the day. But I only kept the walleye and a couple of white bass for some scampi and noodles. Yum.
As I recall, r2u2 said he caught somewhere in the teens on fish count...keeping 8 to be ate. Hope he is suitably impressed with our southern waters.
We had expected to find the area trashed after the three day holiday, but it was surprisingly clean. About the only "evidence" of a big weekend was the foul fumes wafting our way from the nearby dumpster. Good reasons for not taking too much time at launching or ramping.
