Bubbleup Beatemup 5-30-17
#1
[#0000FF]Met up with northerner r2u2 this morning at Lindon. He in his "banana yak"...me in my red ride. Launched by 6:30. Air temp a balmy 57. Water temp 68...and warming to 70 by noon departure. Summer's nigh.

Water depth in the harbor is over 4 feet everywhere. Good to see it. No fish love until I reached the channel entrance point. Hoped for a walleye. Got a whitie. Kept it for bait later if needed.

I headed south to the bubbleup. Richard set up on a proven cat condo close to the harbor and commenced to puttin' a hurtin' on some southern kitties.

At the bubbleup I banged a couple more white bass in quick order. Then I put out a bait line...with a blue-eyed, left-handed chub minnow. After that it was hard to get to fish plastic on one rod because the bait rod was constantly busy. But I did get a couple more white bass and one that had teeth...an 18 inch spawned out male walleye.

Also got a couple of hefty kitties on my small stick fishing plastics for white bass. Fun...but work. On one occasion I was fighting in a cat on the light rod when the bait rod popped. I set the hook on the second fish, adjusted the drag and fought it with my fins as I brought the first fish to net. Then I set the netted fish up on my apron and brought in the fish on the bait rod...and scooped it into the same net with the jig caught fish. Double trouble.

I went through 2 bags of minnows and caught somewhere about 20 cats...from 12" to several 2 footers...with a lot of 20-22" chunky kitties. With the warming water temps the fish were active...and they coloring up for the "prom". In fact, one of the larger females I caught had some fresh abrasions on her side like she might have had a rough date.

Oh yeah, I also caught a couple of everlovin' mudders...to give me a 4 species slam for the day. But I only kept the walleye and a couple of white bass for some scampi and noodles. Yum.

As I recall, r2u2 said he caught somewhere in the teens on fish count...keeping 8 to be ate. Hope he is suitably impressed with our southern waters.

We had expected to find the area trashed after the three day holiday, but it was surprisingly clean. About the only "evidence" of a big weekend was the foul fumes wafting our way from the nearby dumpster. Good reasons for not taking too much time at launching or ramping.

It was a good day to be out but as you said , it was too bad we did not have any wind or boaters to join us.

I am going back down there some day to take revenge on the one that chomped on my thumb. I know he is still there because he didn't go in the basket.

By the time I got home, cleaned the fish, fixed supper and mowed the lawns I was ready to call it a good day.

Thanks for sharing those special hand painted minnows. Had a fun morning.

[#0000FF]Glad you could make it down...and that a few of our kitties showed you some "southern hospitality".

Should be wide open fishing for a while, but the bigger fish bite better at night during the heat of summer. They show up well during the daytime again starting in September.

Lemme know the next time you plan a trip down here and we can hit a different spot. Lots of good potential on Utah Lake.

Hey pat, how deep are the weedlines? I know the water is up with the DC releases but not sure if I need to take a tube when I head down tonight. Probably gonna fish either Lindon or airport dike area.

Sounds like a fine day on the water. I'm glad you had plenty of action and found you toothy white. Mine are still swimming out there somewhere[:/]

[#0000FF]Although the water has come up a lot, it is still about 3' from "full pool". I was in only 3' of water a long ways out from the shoreline at Lindon. But there have been lots of cats coming from even shallower water...if there are reeds and rocks. Fishing from shore or wading will catch fish...if there is no wind to drive them out deeper.

There is free parking and launching at the Vineyard park just south of Lindon Harbor. If you wade out from the shoreline you should easily reach some cats. But if you trudge your tube down you can fish clear out to the end of the bubbleup.

If you haven't checked the airport dike recently you may find that most of the access has filled in with vegetation during the low water.

Awesome thanks tube dude. Been fishing Lincoln Beach area mostly lately and the fishing has been pretty good but it's not a place I could take the family because the reefs around the Springs are all covered with water. There are places to sit on the shore on the genola side but I haven't ever catfished over there. I don't know if it'll be any good. Thinking probably Vineyard Park area is going to be the better place to go if the weeds have grown in around the airport dike. The wife and kids want to go so wading probably isn't going to be an option for this trip.

[#0000FF]Have you tried fishing the end of the south dike at Lincoln Beach? There is a concrete barrier about 1/3 of the way out now to keep vehicles from going out there. But you can park and walk the short distance. Good bank fishing conditions and usually some good action. Also lots of bullheads and some white bass.

No. I've seen folks out there but I always fished the rocky points around the springs. The way the wind is blowing, that south die might not be a bad idea.

Aww I miss LBH. Great job on the species slammin', Pat. Love the timp background in the 'calm pic'.

Looks like you have dialed in...just like always!

[#0000FF]You know I always include at least one Timp pic for my HGS.

Happy to know you still enjoy them.

EVERYBODY has the cats dialed in at Utah Lake right now. Come on down.

I would love to, alas between working 6 days/week and putting in a patio on my off time, any 'free' time is few and far between. Still, I'm way overdue for a UL cattin' trip.
