ALGAE

Scofield is now closed even for fishing! Utah Lake is totally closed also.
Going to make other lakes and reservoirs more crowded for the fishers.

Unless you have some other info, here is what the department of environment quality is saying. Good to know either way:

https://deq.utah.gov/health-advisory-pan...oring-2018

Do not swim or water ski
Do not ingest the water
Keep pets and livestock away
Clean fish well and discard guts
Avoid areas of scum when boating

When did they close ALL of UL?

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

I just called the State Park at Provo and they confirmed that only Lincoln Beach is closed. But it won't stop us fishing there tomorrow. Though it is indeed closed, a reliable source has said that it is mostly aimed at those who get into the water, and not fishermen. And, practically speaking, it's more of a warning and then you decide for yourself. Just one man's opinion. I, for one, will do my best to not fall in and ingest a gallon or two of that nasty water.

So tired of the knee jerk reactions, over reactions, to Alge. I have posted before my experience with blue/green algae in two different States.

They don't even bother to report it.

Sure, if it was several inches thick, or if you drink it, or bathe in it, or ........

And it does not always form from mad made causes either. Sometimes natural fertility of the water is enough to do it. Deep lakes can get it also.

Two of the lakes I think of, one in Idaho, one in Washington, are two of the best lakes I have ever fished. UL is not so bad either.

They way things are, soon we will be afraid of our own shadows.

But, this is just my educated, even if less then humble, opinion.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling, I think I'll go fishing to celebrate it.

i agree a 100% with you . algae has been around as long as water an sun has . this is the most over hyped ridiculous thing i have ever seen . i've been on island park res when the algae is a 1/2 inch thick and no one said a word .
furthermore the news has falsely reported that pets have died from coming in contact with ut lake during a bloom ,guess what it was a false report . surprise .
