As a federal employee I was given the day off for Mr. Bush's funeral today. I did my mourning up at scofield, ice was 5-6 inches thick and a little snow on top and no slush. We didnt make it up there until almost 9am . We were catching little cutthroats in 13 feet of water, majority of fish we caught were 3-5ft below the ice. Glow ice fly with a red worm was best produced with white maribou jig with a gulp maggot was a close second. We stayed away from the dam arm there was to many people there.

I think President GWH Bush would have approved on your use of the day off. He was a sportsman including a fisherman. He supported efforts to protect and promote hunting and fishing. He even went as far as to force Dukakis lead Massachusetts to clean up Boston Harbor. To this day they still stock the pond with catfish on the grounds of his Presidential Library and Museum. It is there to give the kids in Houston an opportunity to fish.

And I'll bet you even thought of him during the day! I know I did and had more appreciation for him and the service he rendered. Looks like a fun day, got to love early ice fishing... Congrats... J

Thanks for the report. Heading there Sunday with my five year old. Do you (or anyone) know if the road around the west side to the Madsen Bay boat ramp is maintained during the winter or is that part shut down?

Road is snow packed but plowed making the sides a bit tough for parking. But it was doable Thursday. Ice was 3" with slush around previously drilled holes. Fishing was good.
