Yep sort of a bummer day catching wise. Glad I took the time to wander around and get a better feel for the depths. Hopefully it will help for next time. I had the same thought about writing off the pond as dead water, but I know there are fish in there. Now it bugs me that I couldn't catch those bottom dwellers. Hopefully the ice holds up so a rematch can be had. Got a point to prove

You are right that it is, or was, a pretty good bass pond later in the year. I spent time in my late teens and early 20's probing the shoreline for bass. The topwater action in late summer/early fall was really good. Seeing bass explode on a twitch and pause floating rapalas was some of the most exciting things I had ever experienced.
