I Did this derby once, weather sucked and the way they ran it didn't impress me much, that same year I also did the DU derby in June & had a much better time, So now we do the DU derby every year. Plus its tax deducible so its an added bonus

I have been fishing for more than 70 years, and to this day, I've never understood the need to make fishing a competitive sport.  I'm not against it or want to see it outlawed, but I just don't understand the addiction to it by otherwise sane folks.   Wink

Bob. I was gona make a whitty post comparing bikini contests to fishing contests and how neither had greatly impacted my sanity...then I realized I would have to moderate my own post and the barage of post assured to follow. So I exercised restraint and said just enough that Curt can only get medium mad at me Smile ?

Based upon what theory is this tax deductible?

Quoting from the IRS website:

"Donors who purchase items at a charity auction may claim a charitable contribution deduction for the excess of the purchase price paid for an item over its fair market value.  The donor must be able to show, however, that he or she knew that the value of the item was less than the amount paid."

This same logic would be applied to a fishing derby sponsored by a charitable organization.

Personally I wouldn't want to see Bob in a bikini.

Nothing personal Bob.

I, on the other hand, would travel at great personal expense and extreme peril, to see Bob in a bikini contest.

I don't get it either.  How many DAM (sic) derbies does the Gorge need anyway?  Ridiculous.  Yet another drunk-fest.
