Mantua Memorial Day weekend kayak tournament
#1
Saturday morning 50 kayak anglers took to the waters of Mantua in search of bass and lots of them. This was an MLF style tournament so anything over 10” we could submit to our totals. Around 630 fish were submitted for judging. I ended the day in 23rd with 129”, the winner had 563.25”. I did catch the largest bass of the day which put a bit of money back in my pocket at 18.25” it beat out the next largest by .25”

I put in at the beach along with most of the others, we had 30 minutes to get somewhere before lines in at 0600. I motored to the back left and waited. Nothing on the first few casts with chatter baits and Texas rigged senkos. Started hearing others mentioning wacky rig, so switched to that and started catching them. I switched between wacky rig and ned rig all day with the occasional other offerings but those were the only productive ones.

It was a great time even during the slow spells. Catching my PB bass and cashing a check was a bonus.

There is a series of them, this is the 3rd one but the first one I competed in. The next one is at Pineview on the 19th of June.
