Another sturgeon outing
#1
I spotted a window in the weather forecast, with minimal wind for 3 days in a row, so I grabbed Monty (a sturgeon virgin) and Kory and we headed to Idaho.

It was especially nice when the first sturgeon landed was caught by Monty (a respectable 5 footer) and then we all got in the act.  Nothing huge this trip, but Monty took top honors with a 7 footer.

My outboard quit working, at the end of the first day, so we got around, for two days, using the trolling motor.  It would take us just under an hour (each way) to get to our fishing hole.  On a positive note, we sure saved a lot of gas by not checking out several different locations and using the trolling motor instead of the 150 hp outboard.  Had the weather not been ideal (almost zero wind) using a trolling motor would have never worked.

Great time and a lot of fun with Kory and Monty.  Now to get up to Lee's Marine to get the outboard repaired.  Hopefully, Monty and Kory will post some pictures and a video or two.

Congrates to Monty. That's a lot of miles on the trolling batteries. Were you able to charge them overnight?
Good fishing to all.   Hue

What a fun trip!  Big thanks to Kent and Kory for making it happen.  I am officially hooked.

The first day when we still had the big motor was absolutely amazing.  We were a bit more limited with where we could go the other days but that wasn’t an issue for Kent.  He slayed them all 3 days.  I am proud to be able to say that I am no longer a sturgeon virgin!  Kent out caught Kory and me by about 4 to 1.  Reeling in one of those amazing fish is exhausting.  I was lucky enough to catch a nice one early so I had an idea of what it takes.  Kent caught them all day long all three days and never even got winded.  Pretty amazing.

I am going to see if I can figure out how to post some pictures.  Hopefully it works.

Thanks again Kent and Kory!  You guys are awesome!

Glad that you guys had a good trip. Was even happier to see that you had made it back to the ramp and that you guys had loaded up and headed out and didn't need a tow back.

Sounds like a great trip. Hopefully, the boat will be easily repairable.

Looks like a lot of fun. Kent, I was wondering what brand/size reel you are using in those pictures. And line?
The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

I primarily used Fin-Nor Offshore 9500 and 8500 OFS reels.  I use 100 pound PowerPro line and 80 pound soft Dacron line for leader.  Hooks are 5/0 to 9/0 (depending where I am fishing and the bait that I am using).  For rods I prefer the Ugly Stik Tiger Lite (no longer made).

you are lucky to find a day with no wind
I may go tomorrow (Wed) take my wife. take  a heater for her. but the wind does not look to good.
been fixing my boat up like  Burley said.   and making my anchor wider.
It is getting cold so this may be my last trip. unless some brave guys on BFT want to go.  and the sturgeon may start to move.
where they go I don't know.
