I'm pretty sure he was referring to some of the jigs I call "bait bugs".  I started making and using these little jigs many years ago, while living in Arizona.  When I moved back to Utah 20 years ago I introduced them to our local fishies and they have shown lots of approval.  As Cowboy has found, they can be deadly fished a lot of ways...with or without "sweetener" (bait) added.

I am attaching some pics and a PDF writeup I put together.  The pictures show the original style...made with chenille or craft cord bodies, newer models with painted bodies and some I make especially for fishing for chubs in my fave chub pond...with or without a bobber.
