FISHING: Good
Stream Flow [[#0000ff]click here[/#0000ff]]

Current Conditions for Boxwood Gulch, Long Meadow, Farmer’s Union, and North Fork Ranch

Flow: 110 Grant

Clarity: Good (Geneva Creek may add some color on warm days).

Water Temperature: Low 40’s

Major Food Organisms: Midges, and caddis

Hatches: Sporadic midges, and caddis

14 Day Forecast: Look for excellent fishing with mayfly nymphs, caddis nymphs, and midge imitations. Flows should stay in the 150-225 cfs range for the next two weeks.

Tips and Other Information: Fishing remains very productive on the North Fork of the South Platte River. The river still remains clear with the cold weather patterns as of late. Geneva Creek is adding some water, but run-off remains minimal at this point. Water temperatures are cool in the morning, therefore; the best fishing is between noon and 4:00 pm. We have been catching several large rainbows in the 16-18 inch range on #14 Bead Head Breadcrust dropped with a #20 Mercury Black Beauty, #20 Mercury FB Pheasant Tail, and a #18 Red or Black Copper John. Look for stable flows and great fishing in the weeks to come. If you want a great day of fishing, I strongly recommend this river. To book a day with any of our Orvis Endorsed Guides on any of the private North Fork leases (Boxwood Gulch, Long Meadow Ranch, North Fork Ranch, or Farmer’s Union) call the shop for more details! We will gladly answer any of your questions.

Effective Patterns: An assortment of small bead heads (#16-18 Pheasant Tails, #16-18 Hare’s Ears, #16-18 Copper Johns, and #14-18 Breadcrusts), #18 Mercury Flashback Pheasant Tail, #14 Pink San Juan Worms, #16 Nuclear Eggs, #20 Sparkle Wings RS II, #22 Mercury Black Beauties, #20 Mercury Brassies, and #20 Zebra Midges.
