U-143 follows the shoreline[/left] [left]for several miles. Campgrounds and resorts are well[/left] [left]marked.[/left] [left][/left] [left]Panguitch Lake was a natural lake encompassing[/left] [left]777 acres until it was enlarged by a 22 foot dam to[/left] [left]become a reservoir with a maximum surface area of 1,248[/left] [left]acres. It is a large midelevation lake on the Markagunt[/left] [left]Plateau, between Panguitch and Cedar Breaks National[/left] [left]Monument. The lake is located in the Dixie National Forest[/left] [left]in a high tourist use area near three national parks and[/left] [left]one national monument.[font "Arial"][size 2][/left] [left][/left] [left]Panguitch Lake is an excellent location for recreation[/left] [left]year around, including waterskiing, picnicking, camping,[/left] [left]cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Usage is heavy[/left] [left]from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It has also become a[/left] [left]popular site for ice fishing during the winter months.[/left] [left]There are two USFS campgrounds south of the lake,[/left] [left]Panguitch Lake North and Panguitch Lake South. Both[/left] [left]have flush toilets, electrical hookups, picnic areas, family[/left] [left]and multi-family units with tables, water, fire pits, and[/left] [left]asphalt roadways. The south campground has mainly[/left] [left]tent sites, while the north campground has R.V. trailer[/left] [left]sites.
