Red meat and catfish
#1
I've heard catfish can be caught on chicken or chicken liver which has been left in the sun until it gets a little "ripe". I also know catfish can be caught using other pieces of fish.

Now I know a certian fisherman who accidentally left five steaks in his family's car two days ago who just figured it out last night. These steaks have gotten a little extra ripe. [unsure]

I was wondering if I..... err.... I mean this fisherman I know were to cut these steaks up if they would make good catfish bait? Has anyone tried this with beef? Does it or will it work?

I'm..... uhh... I mean this fisherman I know is going to try it Monday. When he gets back to me I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh and for those of you worried about the steaks, I understand replacements have been purchased.

Bummer that you, I mean your friend, left the steaks out. Tudedude might have more insight into using steak for cat food but I would say it's worth a try. It might help to put some smelly jelly on a few pieces to see if that would help, just in case it isn't strong enough the way it is. Let us know how you, I mean your friend does. WH2

When I was a young lad (many moons ago), my grandmother would buy me stew meat at the market, which I used to catch big bullheads at night at a lake in "Minasoda." The heads loved the stew meat and had no qualms about getting hooked or did they? At any rate, I would give it a try, I mean what do you have to lose - a few aged steaks? Let us know how it works out for ya.....

It'll work great. I use raw chicken and pork strips seasoned with some garlic salt on Utah Lake. I guess the pork is technically "white" meat but I don't think the cats will mind.

Had a buddy tag a Eye while jokingly dangling a peice of Big Mac hamburger under a bobber one night while we were Kitty fish. I dont see why the suspect steak wouldnt do just as well. Altho' I might suggest you run down to McDonalds for their special sauce and marinade the steak.[Wink]

Well I tried it today with no sucess. I'm not blaming the steak though. I blame the cold crappy weather, cold water, fishing mid-afternoon, a crappy location and only being able to fish for an hour before the torential rain drove me off (I'm not quite as hardcore as tube dude) as the culprits for my skunkedness.

Fortunately I have a lot more steak to play with. Also on the plus side, that bait won't come off for anything. I had to cut it off the hooks.

[cool]Yeah, we're supposed to have more of that "drought busting" weather the next two days (including 4-6 inches of snow in the valley by Wed a.m.), but after that, it's supposed to get nice for this weekend. 60 degrees on Saturday. Think I'll hit Lincoln for the toothy critters, and kitties. Gotta get to the tubemeister's place to get my tube fixed first though.

How the heck do you guys fish out there at Lincoln Beach? I've fished there once but all I caught were rocks. I would have been better off to show up and huck about $5 worth of tackle in the lake and go home.
