Fire near Phoenix has unexpected impacts on fishing at Lees Ferry
#1
Arizona- The Cave Creek Complex Fire had some unexpected impacts to the fishing in northern Arizona at Lees Ferry on the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam. It's one of those domino effects.

The fire caused two transmission lines to go off line. Those lines carry power to Phoenix that is generated from the Glen Canyon Dam hydroelectric operation. For various reason, the power generation was decreased, which mean there were decreased flows below the dam To balance out the flows, the "hollow jet valves" were opened on the dam to release water. Water releases from those jet valves stirred up the water considerably, resulting in lots of foodstuffs being washed loose.

Terry Gunn, an experienced Lees Ferry guide, was fishing near the dam when the jet valves were opened. "It was quite a show, but the end result for us was a rainbow trout feeding frenzy. The fishing was fantastic."
