Looking for a mountain lake I can walk from my campsite to fish from my float tube
#1
Does all that make sense? My son and I are headed somewhere here in Utah that meets the above criteria. For some reason, he likes established National Forest campgrounds, i.e. tables, firepits, water spigots, pit toilets. We are headed out Aug. 1-3. I know all about the lakes on the Mirror Lake Highway but was looking for something different; maybe like Hoop Lake, Joe's Valley, and others. We live in Layton and don't want to drive more than 3 hours or so.
Okay, all you BFTers, have at it and thanks for any and all info! Oh, yeah, we'll be tenting it and have a beat up 1994 S-10 Blazer with 4x4 to travel in.

You might consider Browne Lake on the north slope of the Uinta's. It has most of what you are asking for, including fire pits, tables, walking distance from the lake, good fishing. The last time that I was there they did not have water spigots. But there is a good safe spring a few hunderd yards to the south that most people use. The campground is in the pine trees. There is a lot of wildlife, moose, deer, elk, rockchucks, etc. It is about 20 miles sw of Flaming Gorge on a good gravel road.

Two other good ones with complete facilities in the same general area are Pole creek, north of Roosevelt, and Paridise Park ,north of Lapoint.

Just got back from marsh lake with the family. Great fishing good camping facilities including fresh water and pit toilets, tables, tent sites and very few people go there. It is just 20 min from mt view. Hoop lake is also great for fishing and camping for the same reasons. it is just a little bit further drive.

Mill Hollow is a great little lake with the campground very near the water. I don't know about water spigots, but it has everything else.

Mill Hollow is beautiful! This lake has thick pines right down to the water's edge. I-80 to Hwy 40, three or four miles to the Kamas turn off, turn left toward Kamas. Go to Kamas and turn right at the light toward Francis. In Francis (stop sign) turn left toward Woodland, go through Woodland and in a few miles watch for the sign... it will be a right turn.

[red][size 3]You could head down south and hit Fish Lake. I don't like fishing it from the shore but a tube may be OK. Water is dang cold however. Another idea would be Smith-Moorehouse - way pretty up there. [/size][/red]

I really think it's only 8 or ten miles... that's a few to me. Of course, I commute to SLC from Heber every day. [Tongue]

Just got back from Payson lake, which is on the Nebo highway loop south of Provo. About a two hour drive from Layton. Has nice camp sites with tables and fire pits, water taps and restrooms. Beautiful mountain setting with large pines and quakes. I fished the shore and managed some nice trout, wished that I had a way to float out to where they feeding on top.

Kolob Res in Southern Utah. You can camp right on the lake, and it's a popular fly-fishing spot. This is a "Blue Ribbon" lake, the limit is 1 fish 22" long, and everything else must be released.

Your up at about the 8500-foot level in the aspens; I love fishing this lake and recommend it to you and your boy. I know you don't want to drive this far, but you would enjoy the trip and especially the views of Zion as Kolob is above the park.

They say orange earplugs with a sinker off the bottom are nailing them right now. Because of the Artificial lure only law, these orange earplugs make a good alternative to power bait.
