Our little Internet Fishing Group managed to pull of our ice fishing BBQ party at the Ladders yesterday. We had a good clear 4 inches of ice for a base and in some places one and a half inches of slush on top of that. Fishing was slow, we had nine of us in our party and only 8 fish were caught. One of those 8 was a rainbow, but the other seven were Cutts in the slot range, and were directly returned down the hole. we couldn't have asked for nicer weather and the hot lunch was great out on the ice.
For those of you concerned about the enforcement of the new regs, when we returned to the parking lot the DWR was there and was in fact citing people for keeping fish within the slot limit. One of them came over to me and was complaining that someone at Sportsman's had told him you measure from the tip of the nose to the "V" in the tail. He got cited for two fish being over 15" because of this. (Personally, I have a hard time believing someone at Sportsman's would tell him that.)
