Trusten Holder WMA reopens after flood repairs are completed
#1
GILLETT - Arkansas's spring flooding damaged a number of the state's wildlife management areas, but one of the most severly damaged areas is now open for business. The main road on Trusten Holder WMA that was destroyed during the floods has been repaired and the area has been reopened.
Trusten Holder WMA manager, James VanHorn says that the cut in the road has been repaired. "The road has been graded and is in pretty good shape after all the flood waters from this spring pretty much wiped it out," VanHorn said.

Choctaw Island WMA remains closed, but help is on the way, according to AGFC regional supervisor Roger Milligan. "Bids for the road work have been received and a contract has been awarded to Mangum Contractors of Dermott," Milligan said. "However, there are still some issues to be resolved with the State Historic Preservation Office, as well as a couple other minor formalities, before any work can begin," he explained. "But we do expect it to be soon," he added.

One concern facing Milligan is the opening of dove, rabbit and squirrel seasons in early September. "We will work with the contractor as diligently as we possibly can to try and have this road open by then and hopefully before. Currently, it depends primarily upon when the contractor is allowed to begin the work," he said.
