mantua ice fishing

Does any one know if you can fish the channel at mantua through the ice or does it always stay too thin there?

Hey nate. I was out there in the boat trying to find it and was unsuccessful. It seems like you said it was somewhere near the inlet on the south east side is it not?

that is what I have heard. I have always fished the north side but the channel is supossedly near the inlet on the south side.

I heard that is where the channel is also, but had trouble finding it. In the summer there was so much vegitation that it made it difficult to find...

It was just too shallow for my boat to go up into it too far. Other than that, I took my dad with me on Saturday and had a blast casting spinners.

hey Nathan- yeah that inlet freezes over pretty good during the winter..just don't go over there too early in the ice season.

Geoffrey and I have caught a ton of gills over there in winters' past... Yes, you heard me right, the Geoffrey skunk was not in effect during that time go figure. I think that's the only time I've been fishing with him where I actually slayed 'em!

[cool]Derek, LOL. Yeah, we did slay them that day, but don't forget that time with Pat from our tubes July of '07 when we slayed them that day too...

Nathan, yes, the "chanel" is somewhere right in that area on the SouthEast corner area. I don't think I've fished right on top of it before, but in January (middle of the month) that area is usually safe enough to fish it or close to the channel. We were knocking them dead in 12 feet of water two or three seasons ago right there. There was a little "city" of ice anglers there that day. I went out on the edge of that city about 20 yards past them. The key is to get past the city of anglers and make sure you are NOT on top of a weedbed. You need to be between weedbeds. Without a GPS it's about impossible to find a spot like that over near the boatramp area (West side). I won't even icefish over there anymore. Been skunked too many times ice fishing on that side
