#1
1st post on this forum or any forum.
Has anyone been using red sided shiners at the Berry and if so have you had any positive results?
Thanks

Used them many times up there. They do quite well. Sometimes they prefer chub meat though...kinda finicky sometimes.

Welcome to BFT. If I can catch fresh red sided shiners I prefer them for bait, but they are hard to come by at Strawberry these days. I don't like them very well after they have been frozen because they get mushier than chubs.

We were there weekend of the 5th of Oct. and were using salted frozen shiners. Had know problem with them staying on hooks. Were with our wives and boated approx. 28-32 fish. Have been in Calif. for last few weeks and was wondering if anyone else was using the minnows? Going up there this Saturday, hoping for another good day!

I have also salted them before and that dries them out enough that they have stayed on fine. I have found that sometimes the fish will take the salted ones just fine, but other times they prefer the unsalted chubs.

Well I guess I will have to go by Sportsmans and see if they have any chub minnows left and then we should be ready for anything. Thanks for all the replies and thank you Kent for info.

I have found that the rss work well especially with tub jigs. I usually cut the shiner into 3 or 4 pcs. and have more luck and they go further. 45 fish on this set up last tue.
