DLancas and I went below Nickajack a few days ago and found the parking lot full. I think this year there are more anglers than I have ever seen fishing the fertile Nickajack tailwaters.

We caught and released a bunch of drum and a couple small 5-10lb stripers only after most of the boats thinned-out and quit running directly over the fish. We have found the most productive method is to wait our turn, run up the left side in the calm water and then quietly enter the current near the wingwall drifting back down.

It's great to see small stripers being caught there. Because they are not stocked I think there must be some limited natural reproduction occurring that maintains the small population that exists there. The bonus of the trip was a 33lb flathead DLancas caught on a shad. Water temp was 56. All fish released to grow bigger.
