Went solo again tonight and did the same thing I did last night. The bass bite was sloooooow but I got into a school of crappie and flat wore them out. I started off trying to get the bass to bite like last night but I guess the boat traffic had them down deeper. But while bass fishing I caught a couple of crappie and kept getting my swimbaits killed but could not hook up. So I broke out Drumking's crappie jig from last night and started killing them. The fish were suspended like the bass were last night and all I had to was cast out the jig and let it float with the current. The fish were around 5-8 feet deep and I got hits on every single cast for over an hour. I stopped at 30 even with over half of them keepers with some over 12". I also got 8 bluegill, 2 white bass, and 5 short largemouth.
Baits tonight that produced fish were: silver buddy, small chartuse 2.5" curly tail swinbait, and the crappie jigs. I think the crappie jigs were Garland brand in white with a chartuse tail. I did lose the jig Drumking gave me last year on about the 5th crappie so I had to break my stash out.
The lake was hammered tonight with boats which expains the LM not biting. I did run into Foodsaver and wife????. Got to pet his dog at the ramp. They were out with live shad and did not do too well so I don't feel too bad.
Not a bad evening for 2 hours of fishing. Going again in the morning to look for some shell beds.
I almost forgot. While crappie fishing I layed my ultralight down and started to throw a Sammy. Next thing I know my rod is off the boat and sinking out of sight. Gone. emoBang The crappie jig could not have been even touching the water but a fish of some kind came up, got it, and took my rod away. $180 gone. You would think I would learn as this is the second time this has happened. Last time was a couple of years ago at the Riverpark while fishing with Wet Willie. A spot came up and got a powerminnow hanging over the boat and took my rod away. I am going to start hooking a safty line to my rods while fishing.
