I fished Flaming Gorge growing up and I've gone a few times during the summers. We mostly fish horseshoe canyon. You guys are talking about the pipeline and buckboard marina...where exactly are these and how far is it from Lucerne Marina? When's the best time to go to Flaming Gorge? I just spent the 1st week of August there and the wind/waves were bad and I just have a small 14 foot fishing boat. Any ideas/advice?

Pipeline is about 3-4 miles north of lucernne marina. If you keep going another 15 or so you will come to buckboard. Right now may be the best time to be there. It has been very tough cathing for the last few weeks but they turned on again yesterday and it was fast and furrious. Hopefully it will stay that way for a while. And by the way the koks are turnin red really fast. We caught on one silver yesterday morning and the rest were several diffferent shades from dark pink to brright red. 3 of us limited out and was back at the docks by 7 am. Plus we cuahgt and released several more. That along with no wind, blue skies, calm water and great friends made for one of the best mornings I've had all year.

You can launch your boat at Buckboard and fish that upper area very effectivly with a 14ft. aluminum. Just be aware of the wind and get off when it blows. Buckboard is accessed off the main drag going to Greenriver.

is there a time of year that the wind doesn't blow and cause such big waves.

NEVER! Oh, there's some calm days now and then, like today, but those are the rare exception. This lake blows.
