Fished out of Richland Creek saturday for bass and crappie. My nephew fished with me -- he lives and fishes on Cherokee and Douglas. He wanted me to take him to some of the early fishing we have on Chick. Got to the mouth of Richland Creek and we thought we had arrived at fishing school. At least 20 boats in all directions. We finally got in line and fished the main channel area around rock and gravel. water temp 48-49. threw rattle baits, cranks, flukes, and pitched worms. nothing -- moved into first slough and found bait and water temp at 50-51. Tried for crappie and caught maybe 1 - 2 dozen all 4- 6 inch size. Did manage one keeper bass on exclaibur xr 50. Went to next slough and caught 3 lb bass on 3/4 oz red eye shad in 4-6 ft of water. Biggest surprise was the crappie shown. Caught on the red eye shad in 4 ft of water back on large flat. She was 18 inch long. released at catch site. Ended day with 3 keeper bass, 4 keeper crappie, large number of throwback crappies, stripe, drum, perch, 1 5 lb catfish and only 3 smaller bass. Bass didn't cooperate as well as we expected, but a fun day with my nephew.
