Introduction

Hey all,

New to the forum. Thought I'd drop a line and say hey. Been tubing for almost 2 years now. It's always a blast. Can't believe I waited so long to get one.

I started out with a Classic Accessories Bighorn. Fished it in the fall of 2010 and all of 2011. Decided this winter I wanted something a little different. I just received my Cumberland tube from C.A. and boy is it a big difference. Riding higher with an actual seat as opposed to a sling. I think I'm going to have a fun summer.

I have one main lake I fish in around here in Illinois. I'm mainly a Largemouth fisher. But any bycatch is ok with me.

I'm planning on making a rod rack and possibly a floating livewell. PVC seems to be the name of the game for that. Won't be using premade racks. Going for an angled mount for the rods. Any tips or tricks you guys can recommend?

Taking my maiden voyage tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to share.

Tight lines.

Welcome! TD will get you stylin' in the latest PVC fashion for sure. What ever you do, do not forget that front brace when you go out. A friend had that tube and forgot the brace, very uncomfortable day...but on a good note, he was still able to fish...[cool]

Thanks for that PDF TubeDude. That is an amazing amount of information in there. Definitely have my wheels turning now.

And thanks all for the welcome.

Made it out this morning, 3/14/12, for my first trip of the season and with the new ride. On the water at 8:45am. About 64 degree air temp. Water was colder, my guess in the very low 50's. Partly cloudy and a little breezy.

Worked my normal and familiar way around my launch site. Got a little LMB, about 12inches, to go for the Xrap at about 9:05. Lots of fish chasing bait and causing surface commotion. I'm guessing white bass and crappie, getting ready for the spawn, with a larger model mixed in every now and then.

15 minutes later working the same general area with the jerk bait I had a good hit. Felt like a larger model on the line this time. After a nice little fight landed a 2.64lb LMB. Not very long, but what a chunk. I don't know where he planned on putting my bait, as he already had 2 tail fins sticking out of his throat.

The wind really kicked up after that, steady 20mph and gusting to almost 30. I darted around to a few move coves for 1 more short bite on a texas rigged plastic worm. And one more LMB about 13 inches on the Xrap.

Off the water at 12:15 to get the kid from school. Great first day and the new ride is a night and day difference from my old one. Hope to make it back out tomorrow.

Here's some fish porn...

Just teasing.

You tapped into the right plethora of tube-encyclopedia of info and ideas indeed.

I don't "do the tube" me-self, but appreciate ya'lls that do, and being a putzy lil' fishn' boat - feel a kin-ship non-the-less. Being an Illinois-ian also . . . well.

Welcome - thanks for sharing your report. You've got a lot of PVC ahead of ya - you'll dig it! At least you already figured out where to find the fish!

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds like a good "shake down" cruise. Once you get the feel for it and maneuvering becomes second nature you can really focus on fishing.[/#0000ff]

Sweet! Nice to see that ya got out. With my winter project finally getting close to being finished (finishing the basement) I can now start pulling the toons out. I shall start on saturday after a little sanding and mudding. [cool]

With all this fishing going on I am starting to go a little nuts. Gotta get the gear out.
