Pineview smallmouth round 2
#1
Headed up to pineview again this morning for another round of shore fishing. It started out a little slow, and the water just keeps dropping more and more but we ended up finding the fish and got a few really nice sized ones, bigger than last time.

Yeah it's really nice! As long as you get up there before the heat and million wakeboard boats come up, then it can be much more of a hell!

Yeah I was up there. I launched my toon from Browning point at 7am.I fished around the islands and Could only find dink bass. I got a one good hit in that area but I lost it before I could see what it was. It felt like dead weight with a good tug here and there..carp maybe??? Definitely didn't fight like a bass or TM. I moved over towards the point and found more dinky bass. Finally got another good hit. It ended up being a small TM and I mean small...It wasn't more then like 14".[inline "Baby TM.jpg"]

Nice, that's still more Muskie than we caught haha. I've had a hard time finding them with the water so low. Where is browning point? I don't know if I've ever been there.

Ohhhh ok, yeah I know what your talking about. I haven't fished pineview much before this year so I don't know all the names I guess haha. We fished allllll over the place today and only caught fish in the one spot we always catch them. We fished by the damn, the yacht club, north side of cemetery, and a couple other spots and didn't catch more than 1 or 2 dink bass.

Well where ever your getting them you have it nailed. Ive been fishing PV for a few years but up until recently it was always from shore. Now that I can float it Im finally exploring new places. I really need to get a fish finder asap.. Currently I rely on seek n' destroy and I do a hell of a lot more seeking then destroying.

Yeah having something to get out on the water and a fish finder is a game changer for sure. This has been my first year having a boat to fish out of and we've been finding a lot more fish, and easier to get to them I guess. But for the last couple weeks I've been waiting on parts so I'm back to shore fishing Sad

Nice job on the bass. Like what people say if your amazing with a few species maybe the other one will be slow. For me bass are all small this year but for perch and white bass im in the glorious days for them. Keep it up and I might have to go up there someday because my bigger bass addiction is getting pretty rashy now with only the biggest this year about 11 in not good enough.

JLG78, You can get a very basic but entirely usable fishfinder at Harbor Freight for $50. I had one on my old pontoon boat and it worked just fine. (Still have it. If I could get it to you, you could have it gratis.)

From the photos, it looks like those smallies came from the north side of Cemetery Point. Is that about right? (Or am I asking for your honey hole in public?)

RockyRaab.... Dude you are awesome! That's exactly what I need. Something small and basic. That would help big time. I live in Ogden.. Ill even trade you some gear for it if you want. Send me a PM with your info.

Yeah my fish finder was under $100 and works good for what I do. And yes, you are correct about cemetery point!

Nice fish Jordan those are some nice fish! I fished that area between the two points where you were fishing early on and hooked a couple on topwater. The better one of the two good hits came undone. Thereafter I was further east fishing deep stuff. I believe I saw you guys walking towards the spot shown in the pics. It was an awesome morning! The numbers were there, but I just couldn't find anything better than 16". All the ones I measured ranged from 15"-16". I went back to that point you fished, but there were two boats on top of each other, so I only fished for a bit there and decided to get off the water at about 12:00 noon. There were too many folks competing for spots. In fact, I had an exchange with another boat because they crouded the spot I was fishing. They got so close to me that they were within casting distance. Boy was I boiling. Anyway, It was a good day. Did spot a nice muskie jump out of the water with a perch in its mouth. No muskies for that day.

Keep at it JLG78. I started with a 9' pontoon when I first started fishing pineview. Eventually I added a small trolling motor with a portable depthfinder and that helped. The thing that happens is that it forces you to work the area you put in alot harder and that's not such a bad thing. With the water dropping fast it makes it harder to put in because you have to haul the toon alot further. I haven't fished out of my toon since I got my boat but it was a good rig to get out and find good areas to fish. How long have you been fishing pineview?

Yeah I have a 9' toon also.. and yes it was a long walk sunday morning. I really need to put a wheel on it.

I started fishing pv like 5yrs ago from shore. That next year I started fly fishing and started spending all my time on rivers. Probably fish pv twice a year at most for the next 2-3 years. But towards the end of last summer and this year ive been there quite a bit because I got my pontoon. In the spring I used my fly rod there most of the time but now that the bass are so much deeper ive gone back to my spinning rod. Im trying to learn more about bass techniques and gear any advice would be appreciated. Mostly ive been using jigs and senkos. I also use reapers.. That's what a got that small muskie on.

Yeah it was getting crowded with boats pretty early! We had a couple come and just sit right in front of us and fish. Pretty close to casting distance. Seemed kind of rude to me considering they can fish wherever they want and being on shore we are pretty limited. Some people just lack the common courtesy.
