Deer Creek 8/6/12
#1
went up to deer creek on sunday with my old man and decided to do a little tubing around in search of perch or some eyes if we are lucky. Launched the tubes around 7.30 and on my first cast and nailed a nice 15 inch smallmouth, so i thought it was going to be a smallie day but i only got 3 in total the whole trip. started fishing a little deeper and started getting some fat perch in the 10 to 12 1/2 range in about 33 feer of water. nothing way fast on the action scale but i managed 10 nice perch for the fryer. fished a few hours more and manageda nice 20 inch bow that just peeled my drag like crazy. on the way back to where we parked i noticed some bigger fish right on the shore splashing pretty good and i thought maybe carp since there were alot out there jumping but then i saw a good sized LMB come out and tried to eat a bird off the shore no joke so i thought id throw on my topwater frog just to see what was happening and bam on my first cast right when it hit the water i nailed a nice 14 inch LMB. i proceeded down the 100 yard area to our car n=and got 3 more LMB on the topwater frog that were all the same size a fat healthyy 14 inchers. all in all it was a decent trip getting some perch for dinner out of it and getting a largie on topwater there, that was cool. talked to a few trout fisherman that all had limits fishing offshore with PB and salmon eggs, all were great sized 16 or bigger.

Did you happen to notice the baby sunfish and bass hiding in the shallow water?

There have been hundreds of them up in a couple of inches of water hiding from the bigger fish.

Kind of cool to see.

i did, they were everywhere and now ive seen those minnows on all corners of the lake, i accidently caught one just rigging up before i went out and my jig was sitting under a rock so i went to kick out and there was this little teeny sunny on, but hey atlesast i didnt see or catch any mudders. no crappies either but some good perch wanted to play. cool spot for my first time right there in the tube.

Yeah I've been working the muds in there over pretty good. I bet that I've killed over thirty of them in that bay so far. Just doing my part to help out.

May have to go try it again this weekend. See if I can get into some of that top water.

ya give the topwater a try literally inches from shore and it was pretty good for about 10 casts i landed 3 chunk LMB and it was suprising and fun. if i targeted them more throughout the morn im sure i woulda got some more cause there were some bigguns trying to swallow little tweety birds that were playing in the water. maybe a topwater duckie would work[:p].
