Launched my pontoon just after 6am...Over cast skies and glassy water. Made it to my spot and stared getting hits right away..dinks dinks and more dinks.. attacking my jig. But my jig was bigger then them[frown]. moved a little deeper and switched baits. went to a senko and BAM! fish on felt like a good one but it ended up just being a 12"ish smallmouth. Man those things fight hard I was sure it was going to be a big one. Caught another one similar sized shortly after then thats when things got weird...

I started noticing honey bee's here and there on the water. With in minutes it went from a few to biblical plague. All over the water..my pontoon..me. There were a couple guys on a boat near me as it started to happen. On of the guys said it was so bad a few days ago it drove him off the water. Between that bee's and the nasty weather to the west and the slow fishing I headed in.

That's what I thought that tiger muskie was eating the other day: bees. Didn't have any landing on me, though.

As an aside, I tend to agree with what a member PM'ed me - that muskie gulp air when the water gets warm enough to lower the dissolved oxygen. That's highly plausible since they are a cold-water fish primarily. (Although the number of power idjuts on Pineview ought to be beating enough oxygen into the water to support anything...)

Fish or die: Didn't get stung.. It wasn't an aggressive type situation. It was just annoying.

Ktrout: Believe me I was wishing I had my fly rod. The carp were gorging on those things.

RockyRaab: Interesting theory on the tigers. I always thought they were popping there heads up to checkout the bikini girls.hahaha!

Crazy story with all the bees. Imagine how fat fish could get eating bees all day. I wonder if the hot, dry weather has something to do with them migrating or something, in search of "greener pastures".

RockyRaab, I think you are right on with the air-surface respiration theory as to why TM's, Muskies, and Pike are often seen with their heads out of the water. I posted more information about this that I found, in your previous post on the topic.

It wasn't my theory. I was quoting another member who PM'ed me about it. The credit is to him.
