I'm setting up a fishing trip for the weekend and considering destinations.
I'm leaning toward a Strawberry trip to catch some trout and Kokes.... any recent reports?
I haven't ever done a Yuba pike trip.... that sounds like it should make it into the rotation too.

Agreed. Strawberry is dead to me right now. I'm not going again until late Oct/Nov when the fish supposedly migrate again (like they normally do). Of course, the fish are not in their regular summertime habitats like they normally are right now, so it wouldn't surprise me if this fall and winter is dead to me there also.
After all of the speculation and theories, I am hoping that this is just a down year in previously unknown to me cycles at Strawberry. I've been fishing there since 2004 and I've never experienced poor fishing there like this year, at least for the vertical jigging technique for the big Cutts. Some are still catching a few rainbows and kokes (albeit in much smaller numbers and sizes) trolling deep, but I'm not very experienced using those methods.

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing. Then I retired. Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

i agree with you guys. the berry has been tough this year.and, in my experience late summer is the toughest at the berry. i'm not gonna waste the time and money til later this fall.i cant really speak to the Strawberry kokes. if you're after a trout, Deer Creek has been pretty consistent all summer for nice 2lb bows, and its closer!
if you have the time and $$, Flaming gorge would be a good bet for Kokes, and fat rainbows(see attached).
yuba pike would be a bit of a gamble. but the bigger the odds, the bigger the payoff.

Thanks for the reports guys.
Deep water trolling is in my arsenal, but as I am looking primarily for a half day trip Saturday morning, there doesn't seem to be a good reason to drive by Deer Creek to get to Strawberry.
Given how slow our last trip a month ago was (12 fish between 3 anglers in 5 hours) up to the Berry.... that trip to go hunt monsters at Yuba doesn't seem like a bad bet either.

Really? I was there on Saturday morning with a couple of friends and caught 12 rainbows in the 16-22 inch range. We were fly fishing in the earlier morning though. There was another group on tunes tearing it up even more so.
