MrWiskers, Chick, Crappie, 100 of them, 6-29-2013, Team-D
Matt emailed me looking for a few crappie pointers and I said how about I just show you. I warned him that the morning bite had been slower than what we were doing in the evenings based on talking to the folks that fish early so I was not sure what to expect.
We put in at 6 and headed out the bluff that Alvin I had been doing well on the past few weeks. Pulled up the first sweet spot and boated 50 without moving the boat. Probably had 25 keepers out of these 50. Unreal. Kept moving down the bluff hitting one sweet spot after another and catching fish on all of them. The crappie were pretty shallow today, lots of them coming within 3-5 feet of dry rock in shade pockets.
We had around 80 and decided to hit a couple docks to see if we could get to 100. First dock only had a few but Matt got crappie number 100 right at 9 off the second dock. We probably had 40 keepers out of our 100 crappie with 4 of them 12 to 12.5 inches. Lots of 11-11.5" fish today. Not bad for 3 hours of fishing.
All fish came on 1/32 lead with chartuse or yellow/orange colored baits. We also boated 3 spots, 1 LM and 3 bluegill.
I was worried about the morning bite being slower and the fish being deeper but not today. Super nice morning with very light boat traffic (I guess that is what every morning is like at 6 AMemoLaugh ). Water temp on the main lake is still in the 80 degree range and the willow flies are out in force in some areas.
