Decided to hit the Hiwassee yesterday to get ready for our tournament next weekend. We launched out of Armstrong Ferry around 6am with no clue on where to go or what to throw. This was new water for me and I was going to scout around to see what would happen. I went to my go-to bait lately (frog) and picked up a nice 4 lber on the 3rd cast fishing the outer grass edges. I thought that was going to be the ticket, but no pattern today. I covered a lot of water and fished a lot of different structure. I ended up with 8 total fish, with the largest being the 4 lber. All fish caught were keepers though, so that has be optimistic. All fish were caught on frogs along the edges of the grass. I found that if I kept off the shoreline more, the fish were hitting 10-15 yards off the bank as the grass started to drop. We took refuge under a cement culvert as a storm passed and then continued to fish another hour or so. Good day to be on the water with a light rain and overcast skies all day. After the last 3 days, by shoulders are a little sore from catching fish and paddling for miles...can't beat it though!
