Island Park Reservoir
#1
Heading over to Island Park on Sunday .... main reason for the trip is for the Rally in the Pines ATV ride 21-24 Aug .... however while there we will be camping around the reservoir and would like to try our luck at fishing also. Any suggestions on type of bait to be using, our buddy will be bringing his pontoon so we will have acces to boat and fish some from the shore also.

Is trout the main fish in Island Park?

Thanks In Advance

One of the big draws to Island Park is the large Kokanee. I have seen some up to 25" pulled out of IP. Best advice I can gife is find 25 feet deep and lindy rig off the bottom

I have talked with a few guys that have caught fish from shore around the dam area using worms and marshmallows. They told me it is either good or bad depending on the day. I trolled for 2 1/2 hours last week and only caught one fish. In addition to the kokes, you have rainbows and brook trout in the reservoir. Let us know how you do.

Curt,
That's one of the better reports I've heard all year. Most of the guys I know that fish it regularly have been complaining about what a poor year it has been. I think they're putting in 6000 new fish sometime around the end of the month. Maybe that will help....

It has been the worst year I have ever seen . The lake is cool and the fish are scattered . It will keep getting better as the lake drops .

The fish are unedible in Island park after the 20th of June. Why anyone would baitfish is unbelievable as all the fish are thrown away.... The lake should be catch and release after the 1st of July. Used to be awesome fishing when the lake got down where it is today in Trude with Chronimids at 10-ll'. Those were the days when the fish averaged 3-5 pounds.

The fish taste great . The water temperature is 67 degrees , very little moss . This has been the coldest summer ever . It has been in the low 40 everynight .
