My wife wants to visit her parents in Soda this weekend. Where can I flyfish? I'm new to the sport having grown up doing mostly spinner fishing. Anyway, I have yet to catch a trout on my fly rod (only some sunfish and suckers so far). Where should I go?

Eightmile Creek is the closest. Last time I was there the brook trout were taking it over, but you can still catch some decent fish in the larger pools and beaver ponds.

Georgetown Creek isn't too far, but it is a VERY brushy stream.
The upper part of the Blackfoot River is about 25 miles away. A lot of it is slow and meandering, and it's fish can be very picky.
I forgot to add Black Canyon and Cove area below Grace. It is usually weedy this time of year, but some of the pools may fish okay.

Diamond creek is loaded full of small brook trout with the occasional cutthroat, 8mile creek is also loaded full of brookies. But both creeks are not easy on a new fly fisherman, heavy cover like pierce said upper blackfoot is full of fish that have seen every thing thrown at them and unless you throw exactly what they want at that moment will just pass it by, besides the fish are not worth the effort as far as size goes.. Tin cup creek is full of small cutthroat and I mean small ocasionaly a 12" will rise, McCoy creek is the same story as tin cup creek. China creek is also full of small cutts but all the mentioned above have heavy cover..

Go sneak up on some carp with small black wooly buggers in Alexander or the Bear River. It's fun sight fishing and carp will take you for a fun ride.

I caught 3 bows in the bear river below the dam. Took me this long to respond but caught them last september. hoping to go again this weekend while I'm in Soda.
