Practiced Nickajack Friday, caught 30-40 bass, mostly shorts. Could have a limit, no size. Mike did have a descent smallmouth, just a little short. Steady action most of the day. When back Saturday, down stream, same baits and depth, and nothing. Caught very few early. Picked up as the day went along. Caught mostly spots, couple very short largies and one 14 15/16th inches, plus a smallmouth. Culled a couple of times and weighed a limit of 5#+ spots. Used crank baits, worms and mostly homemade jigs with Yamamoto trailers, tails dyed chartreuse. Everything came in 15 fow or less.
When out Sunday, started near grass mats. Mike hooks a good one on a Whopper-plopper. Fish takes him into the grass and breaks free. I catch a miniature smallmouth on a tequila sunrise Zoom worm, parallel to a grass mat. Run north, I get a short bass on a Zoom worm. Head back south, stop and fish grass mats. Threw a lot, and finally Mike has one take his frog, deep. Put it on the board, about 1/2 inch short. Finished at Harrison Bay with an empty live well. Ended around 8-10th place.
Both days were hot, and almost no breeze. Congrats to the winners, 13.8# on Nick, and over 20# two day total.
Thanks to the committee for a good two day, and all their work during the year. Mike, we had a good year too.
