Glade Run Lake Largemouth Bass Survey

On May 5, 2008 Area One Fisheries Management personnel sampled the largemouth bass population in Glade Run Lake by night electrofishing. Glade Run Lake is a 52-acre Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission owned impoundment located in southern Butler County off of Route 228. This lake is open to public boating and fishing and is restricted to electric motors or un-powered boats. The PFBC stocks Glade Run Lake with trout several times a year and it is in the Early Season Trout Stocked Waters Program as well as the Big Bass Program. Glade Run Lake Largemouth Bass Survey

In 60 minutes of electrofishing, we netted a total of 106 largemouth bass. The overall catch per unit effort (how many fish netted per hour) in Glade Run Lake has increased 4-fold since the implementation of Big Bass Regulations in 1990. This resulted in a rise in the number of fish 12 inches and larger along with a stable catch of fish 15 inches and larger (Figure 1) in recent years. Bass ranged in size from 4 to 20 inches with the majority of the catch ranging from 8 to 12 inches (Figure 2). Of the 106 bass captured, 20% were 12 inches and larger, 7% were 15 inches and larger.

Along with largemouth bass, numerous black crappie, bluegill, and trout were seen. Anglers have reported catching some nice size crappie.
